The heroes of yesterday are dead and gone. Division and the Mutant Control Enforcement Agency (MCEA) saw to that. This dystopia we live in is the result of one anti-mutant hate crime that sparked the third world war. The law now requires mutants to register, to spend the rest of their lives being a number on a file with a tracking device on their wrist or in their bloodstream.

For a while, the children of fallen heroes started to work in the shadows as the new X-Men. Not all that long ago, the latest incarnation of the X-Men was brought down in flames by Division's efforts. Team members captured, Agents killed, Cosmic fire everywhere... It seems as though the days of the X-Men have come and gone once again. Or have they?

Notice: Human Division employees are still much needed, even if they're depowered mutants. We would also love to see more MHA, Morlock and Purifier affiliated characters.

It had been exactly three years since her X-Gene had been kicked into overdrive by an overdose of the enhancement drug 'rave'. It had taken nearly that entire period of time to adjust to the drastic change of having to drain the vitality out of people just to survive. The only real reason she had gotten a handle on it was because of the symbiotic relationship that had evolved between herself and Joe Maximoff. Chaplyn didn't like to think about that side of their... whatever they were, as it lead to too many questions she didn't want to know the answers to.

The detective needed something to take her mind off of the anniversary. That night hadn't just been her levelling up, two of her closest friends had died, as well as a still unspecified number of innocent people. Chaplyn needed something significant but calling in sick and getting loaded wasn't exactly on the menu. She needed a win and she didn't really care what it was or how she got it.

Eslava exited the small Mom & Pop deli with a coffee in each hand and a paper bag containing some bagels. She blew on one of the coffees and sipped at it, testing the temperature and level of bitterness. Pausing to let a bike messenger fly past her, Chaplyn returned to the car where her partner was slumped over in the passenger seat. If nothing else, the coffee cup would give him something to put his cheap liquor in later on. As she rapped on Shep's window with her knuckles a call came in over the radio.

She did not quite catch the whole thing, but she didn't have to. As she stood next to the car she caught sight of movement at the very edge of her vision. A man parkouring his way up between buildings was hard to miss. Or at least it was hard to miss for someone who was somewhat trained to spot the weird. Chaplyn mindlessly shoved her hands into the open car window and essentially just hoped Sam had a good grip on the cups.

Vampira breathlessly said, "Daredevil" before pushing away from the vehicle. The red suit with the stupid little horns? Not hard to identify. This was her win. If it wasn't the universe's way of gift-wrapping her a win and putting it on a silver platter, then it sure as hell was an excellent fucking coincidence. The original Daredevil had been one of pre-war New York's more famous heroes, but this copycat? The department had been trying to arrest him for multiple murders ever since he came out of the woodwork.

The retired X-Man powered up and began pursuing the masked killer on foot. She followed his path up between the buildings at full speed. It wasn't all that hard given her energy reserves were topped off and she was naturally athletic. Although, she had been slacking lately and she would likely feel it later on when she had powered down. As long as she didn't use her powers on the suspect the arrest would be kosher.

Away. That was where Jack needed to be now. The scarlet clad assassin bounded from rooftop to rooftop. His dreams lately had been plagued with memories of his childhood and half remembered truths. His personal life wasn't much better. Max and Molly had brought a group of people into Murdock's life and he wasn't sure how to deal with that. The Hand never really taught him interpersonal skills, just how to take it.

That didn't cover the complication that was Molly. She knew his identity now. And worse. They'd slept together at her little game night thing. He was fairly sure no one knew yet, but that was only a matter of time. It complicated their interactions now. They barely tolerated each other on a good day. Jack wanted to chalk it up to drunken hate sex and move on. But something in his brain was sticking. These days, the part of his life where he was in costume was the least complicated.

This was the part of his life where the mask could come off. Jack was truly himself in costume. Sam had asked him to assist a few less than righteous folks to confess to murder. Jack could manage that. He might only have to kill a few to make a point too. At least that would occupy his mind for an hour or two.

Daredevil heard her first. He heard a female voice say his name and then heard the movement towards him. He actually slowed his pace just to find out what it was that was drawing a stranger after him. He reached out with his other senses as he moved. The stranger smelled of coffee, ozone and something else. Jack couldn't quite identify it. The way she moved, it was pretty clear that she was a mutant.

Daredevil grabbed a hold of a water tower ladder and pulled himself up, moving to a position where he would be hidden. He waited until his prey was close and then spoke from the shadows

"I admit, I'm not used to being chased by beautiful women. What do I owe the pleasure? An autograph? A roll on the rooftops? Or are you just out for an evening jog?"
