“This next throwback jam is for all of my mutie brothers and sisters who are truly ‘Staying Alive’...”
  • SPRING 2038!

Welcome to the year 2038, where the heroes of yesterday are dead and gone. Division and the Mutant Control Enforcement Agency (MCEA) saw to that. This dystopia we live in is the result of one anti-mutant hate crime that sparked the third world war. The law now requires mutants to register, to spend the rest of their lives on file being and being tracked. New York City is a shell of its former self but still remains a beacon despite all that has happened there. Despite this, a mass exodus brought people to the new country capital; Chicago. Which is why so much money and effort has gone into attempting to restore it to its former glory. Chicago isn’t the only thing rising from the ashes of a world that no longer exists. The children of former X-Men have come together to bring back the much needed hope that only they could bring. The road is long and will not be easy for anyone, but something has to be done before it’s too late.

Unless on they appear on the canon list, mutants working for Division are banned until the further notice. IE until the number of humans in this category out number the mutants. We would also love to see more MHA and Morlock affiliated characters.

The house's stores had been nearly half way consumed. Laura hated going to the store to buy supplies. At least over the years it had mellowed into a mild loathing. Food stores could be tolerated. Far less of an annoyance than those larger shopping malls of her youth. Back then most of students wanted to do such annoying things. Laura could remember Rahne, Robbie, and Samuel all clambering to visit the food courts to stuff their faces full of horrible fast food options. In those times it seemed like torture to have to walk the crowed walkways with her friends. Years ago she'd still struggled with emotions of a normal girl. The rage was always the hardest thing to control. A white hot blinding rage similar to what her father dealt with. Years of experience was the only thing that had separated them.

The Valu-Mart wasn't too horribly packed for a late Friday evening. Most normal people would have been out on various dates or some such. These days Laura didn't date, not that she back in her youth. Romantic feelings were hard to deal with back in the X-Men days. Now that years had past Laura had dated some, not much, but at least a little. Now as she pushed the black metal shopping cart through the aisles, her eyes saw only the old and very lonely walking around her. The cart already had a large impressive bounty in it. Containing the various needs for everyone eating requirements. Some of her charges had a large variety of food allergies, two couldn't eat milk related products, one gluten.

She'd always barrow Rose's car when the time came upon them. Whether it was food, furniture, or health care needs. Her business partner had an old school mini-van. Rose had three kids, almost the perfect life. Kinney always wondered why Rose had gotten into this business. It seemed a bit risky for someone who had the perfect life. Working with mutants seemed dangerous to most, crazy to others. The woman's kindness showed her that there was still kindness in this screwed up world.

The aging van, loaded down with groceries, pulled to a stop in front of her pride and joy. The business that had taken years to hone and perfect. Even though the building was old and faded, the sight brought a small smirk to her face. The car door squeaked as she got out and made her way towards the rear. The back hack equally made a protest as it reached for the sky. White plastic shopping bags littered the back trunk space. Grabbing several in one hand, Laura made her way up the stone steps. The front door was unlocked as she tried the knob. Smells of grilled cheese filled her senses as she stood in the front room, looking at a package that was sitting on the dark wood table. Upon a quick glance it was addressed to the business, although she couldn't remember ordering anything. Not giving it a second thought, Laura proceeded towards the kitchen and the pantry. "Evening." The mutant said to Rose and two children present. "Hey Laura. We're just making some dinner. Want some? How was the store?"' The older woman said with an excited tone. She seemed to be thrilled to make the sandwiches for the two children.

"It wasn't too bad. I was able to just get in an out." The woman said placing the four white bags on the large island in the middle of the kitchen. Hands plucked out several cans of soups and veggies. Loafs of white bread placed onto its surface, next to those cans. "I've got quite a few more bags in the car. Ricky, you want to help me out?" Laura said the little fourteen year old. He was sweet kid who was just throw out for being different. His parents didn't like the idea of having a mutant kid. She'd remembered picking him up at the Division processing center. He was terrified and feeling depressed. It had taken months for him to break out of his shell, but finally with Rose's help he became a normal kid teenager again. "Sure!" He said eager to help out. A hand raised to muss the kid's hair. "Lets go. How was school?" She said as they walked back out of the kitchen and into the long hallway.

"It was ok. I'm glad it's Friday. This week has been killer. I got a B on that math test." The teen said walking in front of the former X-Man. Before they got to the table there was a flash, a blinding light. A wave of pressure washed over her, tossing her backwards. A siring heat tore at her flesh, melting part of it in an instant. Her body tossed around back the way she came like a rag doll, until it was launched a kitchen window into the small yard behind the four story house. Laura didn't move but just remand face down in the small patch of grass, body broke and burned.

She was running through the streets, her eyes consciously glancing around. Unlike some of her friends, she wasn't worried about Division hunting her down. No, she'd went to them after the Firehouse 52 raid and voluntarily registered, just like her brother. As much as she hated knowing that Division held a file that had general facts about her powers.

Her faded navy sweat shirt covered her torso as her black running pants fluttered through the air with each step she took. Makena hoped none of her team mates were glancing over their shoulder at every chance to make sure no one was following them. She hated the thought of having not been there. Of not being able to do anything to keep the others out of Division's hands. No, she'd been present at a conference that day with her brother.

Her teeth gritted against each other as she came to a stop. There was no music playing in her ears, not that it mattered. She wasn't running for exercise but instead to let off some of the pint up anger that had been building over the last few days. She needed this so her powers didn't start to reflect her state of mind. The diplomat needed to stay together since no one could find out about her connection to the recently disbanded X-Men. I can't even know if anyone knew that we were calling ourselves "The X-Men"! she thought before a flash drew her attention away from her thoughts.

The boom followed shortly afterward. Something wasn't right. If anyone was watching her, they would see the shadow under the hood glow with the shape of two electric blue irises, which had been ignited in preparation for her powers. She ran towards a building and when nearing it, call for the winds to lift her up. Higher. Higher. she thought as the updraft carried her until she stepped off onto the rooftop.

No one was around and the vantage point was perfect to see the smoke lifting up from the house engulfed in flames. She had no idea if anyone was in the process of calling emergency services but her instincts told her to go. She ran off the roof, her stance like an athlete participating in the long jump event as the winds came and began to carry her again. She knew that her legs would be shaky when she landed, from both the running and her flight. Though that concern was in the back side of her mind.

She saw the body laying in the grass first and decided to check it immediately. When she landed, she instantly fell to her knees and her calves felt like they were on fire. The body looked to belong to a woman's and she seemed to be in bad shape. "Are you okay? Is anyone calling 911?!" She yelled into the air, her voice being met with the gasps from onlookers. Was she the only one who was taking any action?

Still yourself. You must not be like the rough waves. Be calm and strong like a river. She thought to herself. A sort of meditative mantra Shuri had taught her long ago. Her eyes, still glowing, turned to the street. A lone hydrant entered her glance. Her hands reached out, palms raised to the heavens. She lifted, slowly, as if against a weight. She yelled, out of anger and effort, before the hydrant's top burst and a rushing stream of water went skyward.

She moved her hands in a flowing motion, leading the water to engage the flames on the house. "Come on, please work." Makena prayed to the heavens, with the woman's body laying on the grass beside her.

The force of the explosion had left her body in tatters. Every time something like this happened Laura felt like she died, but knew she didn't really. Usually she remained in a sleeping or coma like state. That was until her body started to heal, which was usually right away. Bones started to snap back together, with large nasty cracking sounds. Laura's eyes shot open and groaned in massive agony. The burn's weren't as hard for her healing factor to fix.

Fingers gripped handfuls of what grass was in the back yard. Her sense flooded back to her, filling her brain with information. Ears picked up the sound of the fire eating away at her home, her life's work. Nose could smell the scent of burning wood, paint, and human hide. She'd been damaged like this before, but not since the war. Where things got messy on a near constant basis. Fighting with Max Castle allowed her to push her body to the limit back then. Laura had seen her father get trashed badly, but he at least had the benefit of the strong metal Adamantium covering his bone structure. One of his greatest strengths and weakness. The metal would protect his organs, but made his healing factor slower. X-23's was beyond the old man's because she didn't suffer with that weakness, save for weapons in her arms and legs.

Within seconds Laura was on her knees, grunts and hissing like an animal. The blood rage was always the hardest to control when she was recovering from massive bodily traumas. Lungs inhaled and exhaled oxygen into her frame, oxygenating her blood. Someone was going to pay for what they'd done. Trying to kill her, but more so killing the innocents in the know burning building. Claws popped out in rage and frustration.

The strangers words didn't even get into her grey matter right away. The anger had taken root. "Why would you do such a thing!" The former X-Man screen out, spit flying from her mouth. "I'm going to fucking kill you." Shakily getting to her feet, almost falling back on the grass. The woman seemed to be trying to put out the fire though, that didn't make any sense. Rolling her neck, the joints snapped, eyes still locked on target.
