The heroes of yesterday are dead and gone. Division and the Mutant Control Enforcement Agency (MCEA) saw to that. This dystopia we live in is the result of one anti-mutant hate crime that sparked the third world war. The law now requires mutants to register, to spend the rest of their lives being a number on a file with a tracking device on their wrist or in their bloodstream.

For a while, the children of fallen heroes started to work in the shadows as the new X-Men. Not all that long ago, the latest incarnation of the X-Men was brought down in flames by Division's efforts. Team members captured, Agents killed, Cosmic fire everywhere... It seems as though the days of the X-Men have come and gone once again. Or have they?

Notice: Human Division employees are still much needed, even if they're depowered mutants. We would also love to see more MHA, Morlock and Purifier affiliated characters.

It had been exactly three years since her X-Gene had been kicked into overdrive by an overdose of the enhancement drug 'rave'. It had taken nearly that entire period of time to adjust to the drastic change of having to drain the vitality out of people just to survive. The only real reason she had gotten a handle on it was because of the symbiotic relationship that had evolved between herself and Joe Maximoff. Chaplyn didn't like to think about that side of their... whatever they were, as it lead to too many questions she didn't want to know the answers to.

The detective needed something to take her mind off of the anniversary. That night hadn't just been her levelling up, two of her closest friends had died, as well as a still unspecified number of innocent people. Chaplyn needed something significant but calling in sick and getting loaded wasn't exactly on the menu. She needed a win and she didn't really care what it was or how she got it.

Eslava exited the small Mom & Pop deli with a coffee in each hand and a paper bag containing some bagels. She blew on one of the coffees and sipped at it, testing the temperature and level of bitterness. Pausing to let a bike messenger fly past her, Chaplyn returned to the car where her partner was slumped over in the passenger seat. If nothing else, the coffee cup would give him something to put his cheap liquor in later on. As she rapped on Shep's window with her knuckles a call came in over the radio.

She did not quite catch the whole thing, but she didn't have to. As she stood next to the car she caught sight of movement at the very edge of her vision. A man parkouring his way up between buildings was hard to miss. Or at least it was hard to miss for someone who was somewhat trained to spot the weird. Chaplyn mindlessly shoved her hands into the open car window and essentially just hoped Sam had a good grip on the cups.

Vampira breathlessly said, "Daredevil" before pushing away from the vehicle. The red suit with the stupid little horns? Not hard to identify. This was her win. If it wasn't the universe's way of gift-wrapping her a win and putting it on a silver platter, then it sure as hell was an excellent fucking coincidence. The original Daredevil had been one of pre-war New York's more famous heroes, but this copycat? The department had been trying to arrest him for multiple murders ever since he came out of the woodwork.

The retired X-Man powered up and began pursuing the masked killer on foot. She followed his path up between the buildings at full speed. It wasn't all that hard given her energy reserves were topped off and she was naturally athletic. Although, she had been slacking lately and she would likely feel it later on when she had powered down. As long as she didn't use her powers on the suspect the arrest would be kosher.

Away. That was where Jack needed to be now. The scarlet clad assassin bounded from rooftop to rooftop. His dreams lately had been plagued with memories of his childhood and half remembered truths. His personal life wasn't much better. Max and Molly had brought a group of people into Murdock's life and he wasn't sure how to deal with that. The Hand never really taught him interpersonal skills, just how to take it.

That didn't cover the complication that was Molly. She knew his identity now. And worse. They'd slept together at her little game night thing. He was fairly sure no one knew yet, but that was only a matter of time. It complicated their interactions now. They barely tolerated each other on a good day. Jack wanted to chalk it up to drunken hate sex and move on. But something in his brain was sticking. These days, the part of his life where he was in costume was the least complicated.

This was the part of his life where the mask could come off. Jack was truly himself in costume. Sam had asked him to assist a few less than righteous folks to confess to murder. Jack could manage that. He might only have to kill a few to make a point too. At least that would occupy his mind for an hour or two.

Daredevil heard her first. He heard a female voice say his name and then heard the movement towards him. He actually slowed his pace just to find out what it was that was drawing a stranger after him. He reached out with his other senses as he moved. The stranger smelled of coffee, ozone and something else. Jack couldn't quite identify it. The way she moved, it was pretty clear that she was a mutant.

Daredevil grabbed a hold of a water tower ladder and pulled himself up, moving to a position where he would be hidden. He waited until his prey was close and then spoke from the shadows

"I admit, I'm not used to being chased by beautiful women. What do I owe the pleasure? An autograph? A roll on the rooftops? Or are you just out for an evening jog?"

Vampira couldn't remember how the hell she had managed to forget how fucking good this felt. The powered up pursuit, the rush of the hunt. Her mind may have forgotten the feeling but her body remembered all the moves. Each step of her chase was forgotten as soon as they had been executed. The feeling of the brick, the iron and the concrete forgotten as soon as she moved onto the next one.

The tunnel vision was already starting to set in. It was a downside of powering up for this type of thing. It tended to bring out, if not exacerbate, some of her less savoury traits. She may have been an energy vampire but she still had many of the same predatory instincts that the other kind had. If she wasn't careful, it could be a slippery slope.

She lost sight of him by the time she made it to the roof. He couldn't have gotten far, he wasn't that fast. Chaplyn licked her lips as she took in her surroundings with her enhanced senses. There was always something that gave away her prey's location or direction. The detective didn't have to try too hard, as a voice called out from the shadows.

Pivoting towards the water tower, Lyn took a few moderately cautious steps in his direction. She smirked and let out an incredulous laugh. Cocky bastard. Though she couldn't see him she could feel that he was still around. "CPD." On the off chance that he could see her, she pulled back her jacket to reveal the detective's shield clipped to her belt.

"I'm not new enough to think that the guy who runs around in a gimp suit is going to skip the foreplay. But I will say this is going to end with you being in cuffs ."

Jack's eyes locked on the shiny badge. It amused him how they always thought that was going to be what did the trick. They'd flash the badge and he'd drop what he was doing and surrender because of the piece of tin. It didn't work in the movies and rarely in real life. But he was quite amused to see it tried on him yet again.

"Most women complain when you skip the foreplay. But I have a question for you." Jack continued moving along the far side of the water tower now, realizing that the detective seemed to be able to track him. He'd have to have words about her to Samuel. This was intolerable.

"Is your entire department made of hot blondes who want to put me in handcuffs? Because you're the second in two months and I'm having a real hard time wanting to escape. I was just wondering if that was the marketing thing now."

Daredevil climbed onto the top of the water tower and looked down at Chaplyn. "Ah, the little vampire that would be human. I recognize you now." A little piece of information, offered up to throw her off balance. That was to prepare the officer for the distraction. He threw his billy club at the ground in front of her, aiming for the spot where the flat of the roof met the raised edge. At the same time, Jack went flipping into the air. The club hit and bounced, before hitting the water tower and bouncing again. As Jack came down a few feet behind Chaplyn, he held up his hand, catching the club and breaking it into two.

"We both know you're dumb enough to try to chase me, so I feel like we should probably just do this here and now. Do you want to set a safe word?" His lips turned up into a roguish half smirk. As inconvenient as this was, Jack was happy to have the distraction. "Because I promise not to be gentle. Not at all."

She didn't intentionally use the enhanced senses portion of her powered-up state as often as she probably could have. Once she was locked onto a target or a goal, Chaplyn barely even noticed those aspects were enhanced at all. The strength and the general feeling of being unstoppable were all she consciously latched onto. It was the only thing the tunnel vision allowed her to do. "It might be clichéd, but I'm really not most women."

He was either trying to throw her off or was a naturally chatty lunatic. It wasn't entirely working, but it was definitely the first time she was hearing about another recent attempt to apprehend Daredevil. Lyn filed it away for later, or at least intended to. "Yeah, sure. It's the department's new masked-asshole catching plan in action."

Her mystery date finally poked his head out from his hiding place. Chaplyn impatiently shifted her weight from one foot to the other as she glared up at the man in red. ...the little vampire that would be human. The world flashed red for a moment and her hands balled to fist. Who the fuck was this guy, and how the fuck did he know? What the fuck did he know? It didn't matter, she was taking him in.

There was a metallic tink that caught her attention briefly distracted her. Her mind was moving and analyzing quickly enough to follow what was going on, her body's reaction timing was slower. She scolded herself for getting distracted. Had she been quicker she probably could have been able to shoot him. Then again, she didn't want to draw on Daredevil. Every part vibrated with the desire to go full on fist and fang on the irritating lunatic.

Her body caught up with her mental tracking as he broke his club in half and she scowled at him. "Last chance to make it easy on yourself, Devil-Boy." Finally getting a good look at the man she looked him up and down slow enough that he would know she was checking him out. "Safe words are for pussies." Lyn unconsciously shifted into a predatory stance and took slow careful steps circling him. She had no interest in playing any cat and mouse games or waiting around to see who swung first. Vampira launched herself at the costumed man full force. "Promises, promises."

Well, the plan to get her bantering was working well at least. Jack smiled inwardly. He found that once you got most people bantering back and forth, it was easy enough to apply pressure to certain things and get under their skin. He'd find it soon enough. Just needed a few minutes to get into her head. He had enough intel from Sam to make it work.

"The department is always so good with their marketing."

Chaplyn's heartbeat went up and Daredevil grinned. "Oops. Did outing someone as a vampire strike a nerve? I never know what's a secret and what isn't. Sorry. I won't tell anyone." He'd found the pressure point. That was enough to push on for the moment. That would hopefully keep her off balance enough that he could crush her quickly and move on with his evening. The good news was, that he knew she could take what he dished out. That meant little need to hold back.

Counter-circling, Daredevil grinned. He had no desire to turn his back on this girl. She was a predator and he could tell just by looking. There was no backing down from this now. And if he was being honest, Murdock didn't want to back down. Not at all. "Go easy? Oh, baby. I want you to make this good. I want to remember our first time." He made a point of giving her an obvious look up and down, so that there would be no question about his checking her out behind the mask. He had already scanned her with his senses, but he wanted it to be obvious.

As Vampira launched himself, Jack dropped to a knee and his hands tightened around the sections of the billy club now, making use of them like rolls of quarters. As Daredevil went low, he brought his hands up, aiming for her mid section with a full force punch. If the blow hit, he was hoping to knock her off balance and at least knock the wind out of her for a second and let him work on ending this quickly.
