“Meteorologists are warning there's a record breaking heatwave coming this way...”
  • SPRING 2038!

Welcome to the year 2038, where the heroes of yesterday are dead and gone. Division and the Mutant Control Enforcement Agency (MCEA) saw to that. This dystopia we live in is the result of one anti-mutant hate crime that sparked the third world war. The law now requires mutants to register, to spend the rest of their lives on file being and being tracked. New York City is a shell of its former self but still remains a beacon despite all that has happened there. Despite this, a mass exodus brought people to the new country capital; Chicago. Which is why so much money and effort has gone into attempting to restore it to its former glory. Chicago isn’t the only thing rising from the ashes of a world that no longer exists. The children of former X-Men have come together to bring back the much needed hope that only they could bring. The road is long and will not be easy for anyone, but something has to be done before it’s too late.

Unless on they appear on the canon list, mutants working for Division are banned until the further notice. IE until the number of humans in this category out number the mutants. We would also love to see more MHA and Morlock affiliated characters.

DIVISION
MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION & MILITARY MACHINE
Division is an international corporation that contracted by various international government agencies to capture, contain and transfer mutants. On a scientific level nobody knows more about mutants than Division Labs thanks to their extensive and on going research. Research that will make them a pretty penny from drug sales once they crack the key to mutant power suppression/removal. They have headquarters, offices, research facilities and three supermax mutant specialized prisons. The two most notorious prisons are Rykers Island in New York and Muir Island in Scotland. Fun fact? Division has owned the majority share of Stark Industries since all the Stark assets were seized. Hence why the MCEA and Division Agents always have access to the best of everything. Even with all of this going on they have managed to maintain an impeccable public reputation. Untarnished even though there are people out there who know the truth.

Due to the fact that they have so many different facets there are a number of different career opportunities for those individuals deemed fit. Everything from the researchers from Division Labs to the paper pushing Bureaucrats from Division International. Then there is the many levels of the Mutant Control and Enforcement Agency which was formerly a branch of the FBI.

REGISTRATION OFFICERS are in a simplified sense social workers/parol officers for registered mutants. They run the tests, keep the files, and are essentially responsible for protecting the rights, freedoms and privacy of those mutants who have followed the law and registered.

SECURITY OFFICERS these are not your standard rent-a-cops, MCEA/DIVISION Security Officers are all highly skilled and trained. The higher the security clearance the higher the paycheck. However the more sympathetic you are to the plight of mutants, the less like likely you are to rise. Those who are tightlipped, don't ask questions and are willing to look the other way on the other hand will go far. Security officers range from watching over the registration offices, to working at the prisons and research facilities, to being the personal bodyguards or high ranking officials.

INVESTIGATION OFFICERS are those who investigate claims of mutant activity of any sort. Anything from "I think my neighbour is a mutant" to reports of possible illicit activities being preformed by the so called "anarchists". They are allowed to use lethal force, only if necessary.

MCE TASK FORCE is helmed by a man named General Veers. This task force is made up of trained professionals from various branches of the military - some of which even from abroad. These are the ones who physically track down, subdue, contain and transfer wanted mutants - usually gunning for the biggest fish first. The task force has a reputation for using excessive and even lethal force with some frequency.

INTERNAL AFFAIRS is much like any other Internal Affairs Bureau, as far as anyone ranking below IAB knows that is. The exact details of this position are on a need-to-know so contact Magneto before applying. There will only ever be a maximum of 3 IA Agents on GotA at one time.

HUMANS
THE MAJORITY OF THE WORLD IS NOW HUMANS
Ever since M-Day it has become well known that humans outnumber mutants, even though they don't have to live in constant fear of both mankind and the government, living in a dystopian world isn't easy for the humans. Yes, in many cases it's easier than it is for mutants but they have slowly come to be caught in the middle of the ongoing battle between division vs mutants. Like their mutant counterparts humans are as different from each other as they are from the mutants themselves. There are those who support mutant rights while others actively fight to eradicate the freaks of the world. Some human's blame mutants and mutants blame humans. Others have better things to worry about. Seriously it's a global depression, the world doesn't revolve around superpowered folks. Humans live, have families and jobs and social lives just as they always have. Just because the world has changed doesn't mean that humans haven't stopped being human.

METAHUMANS
THE SMALLEST GOTA GROUP
We have come to find ourselves in a position where adding a new group for those few who do not fit into any of the categories given. For our purposes netahumans are those who are either naturally or synthetically gifted in ways that do not involve an X-Factor. Being neither here nor there they are sort of a bridge between humans and mutants. Like with humans what sort of lives they live are based on what kind of people they are. Some work for the government or agencies like Division, while others live like off-grid mutants. Some put themselves center stage just to flip off the world, since they've got non-human attributes but don't have to comply with some stupid registration act. But don't be fooled. There's always someone, somewhere, keeping tabs on the metahumans.

Metahumans will not be receiving their own canon list, however you will find one or two tucked in with the Division and Human canons. Please be advised that we will be closely monitoring the number of metahumans on GotA at any given time. Additionally it should be noted that we are more likely to put a ban on these than with just about any of the other groups. Metahumans are a privilege, not a right.

OFF-GRID MUTANTS
IT’S THE HARD-KNOCK LIFE
Though being off the grid is one of the more appealing options for mutants it is often the hardest. It requires mutants to keep their inhuman status a secret, especially from the ones they care about most. Sometimes that means they have to live a nomadic life cutting themselves off from people with the exception of those few they have found to be fellow off-grid mutants. They don't want any trouble, no more war, no more big brother watching over everything. They just want to live their lives as free citizens without having to deal with daily persecution from the masses. It is said that more off-grid mutants die each year than those that have been classified as anarchists. While this is more than likely factual it is also true that they have the best inter-community relations and thus probably the greatest multipurpose pipeline since the underground railroad and prohibition.

Off-grid mutants have long since developed their own way of communicating ranging from certain code phrases all the way to a language made up of symbols to mark territory as things like "friendly" or "hostile". While some are quick to help each other out, others wont take on the risk.

REGISTERED MUTANTS
LIVE A NORMAL LIFE
Mutants in this category are *citizens of the United States (or from other nations with their own registration programmes) that have willingly and or have occasionally been forced into complying with the Mutant Registration Act. All registered mutants carry a registration card (that is not unlike a drivers licence) with their case number on it and most registered mutants have nano-tracking devises implanted in their system. Removal of these nano-bots is near impossible to pull off without killing the mutant in question. Those mutants who could not be injected due to their powers (impenetrable skin etc) must wear tamper proof tracking bracelets not unlike those used on people under house arrest. The federal database of registered mutants is catalogued by number rather than name in attempt to give them a little more privacy. This database is claimed to be a thousand times more secure than that belonging to the witness protection program.

Being registered doesn't necessarily mean that everyone automatically knows you're a mutant. For the most part people can't just Google you and find out your status, however it is now a box on most job applications and government forms. Registered mutants have a peace of mind that off-grid mutants often don't, because they don't have to hide anymore. All of that being said, that does not mean registered mutants won't have to put up with some pretty fucked up hateful anti-mutant shit from those intolerant asshats of the world.

Mutants found in violation of the MRA are arrested and can be held for an indefinite amount of time. Usually as long as it takes to run an extensive background check and create a psychological profile. Depending on the level of potential addition of alternate criminal activities, Along with forcible registry these mutants may find themselves serving time on Rykers Island or merely slapped with a fine, probation and a hundred hours of community service. It should be mentioned that even though these mutants are in essence “low-jacked”, they are not monitored 24/7. Usually the only time that anyone takes a peek at the system is when a crime has been committed which involved non-human abilities. The files of registered mutants in the area are then cross referenced to weed out any potential suspects.

THE NEW X-MEN
whut whut
note: the ability to make a member of the x-men that does not appear on the canon list is reserved for players who have already established themselves and their abilities. sorry for the inconvenience, but we want to keep this team small, which means there cannot be more x-men than there are division and this is the only logical way to keep things at their minimum.
In one form or another the X-Men have been around since the 1960s. Up until the war they were considered to be a pinnacle of hope for mutantkind, hope that one day they could live together with humans in peace. Their ranks were hit hard during the war, with many of their members, friends and allies dying or ending up getting de-powered on M-Day. Ultimately the majority of the surviving members went their own ways. Some to lick their wounds in peace, others who left to and try to help rebuild the world.

After the news of Wolverine's death spread a dark cloud settled over the mutant community. If a living legend who had lived through numerous wars, never aged and always healed could die... well, it was only a matter of time before the rest of mutantkind got picked off. This enduring gloom stuck around until one night out of the blue, during prime time, when every electronic billboard and every television in America simultaneously shared the same message. There was no sound, no added music, just a black screen emblazoned with the Xavier School for the Gifted emblem and the words "You Are Not Alone".The transmission was untraceable and lasted only twenty seconds, but it was in the news on an international level for over a week.

They may not be the well oiled machine of a team that their previous incarnations were, but they're back in action. Unlike their predecessors these X-Men work more in the shadows the way that vigilantes do. In fact, they're so low profile that they have largely been classified as a nonsense rumor by most of the population. These X-Men are much ore apt to blend into the crowd at a moments notice, and not just because they forewent the matching uniforms. They are very well geared towards the modern age with engineers, the technology inclined, and those who spent years on the run among them.

None the less our crime fighters still right wrongs and triumph over evil. The X-Men will not accept anyone under the age of 21 or mutants who do not have a firm grasp on their abilities. The original members of this new incarnation were all hand picked, not unlike the way Danny Ocean's team came together in Ocean's 11.

The X-Men currently live and work out of Fire House 52 in Chinatown.
GHOSTS
JUST NOT ACTUAL GHOSTS
The X-Men have all either been captured by Division or forced to go deeper underground. The only thing that remains is a Ghost Op based out of the Wreck Room Installation. Their number is currently small, made up of those who do not require time to re-evaluate their lives. They are the cavalry, an emergency strike-team immersed in espionage and counter-espionage. At the end of the day helping mutants get and stay off the grid, is still their jam. If you call them, they will come.

note: characters who were previously x-men are prime candidates to rejoin this ghost crew at some point. everyone else will have to be recruited in based on their usefulness to, and suitability for, the strike-force.

THE BROTHERHOOD
AIN'T NO REST FOR THE WICKED
note: we have decided to put the same restriction that is on the x-men on the brotherhood for similar if not the same reason. only players who have previous gota experience may make original brotherhood members. it might seem unfair but the goal is to keep this group from getting too large.
When Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr formed their individual groups of mutant kind, each of them took up a cause that was not dissimilar from the other. Both groups took in wayward mutants who lacked the ability to control their gifts; and strove to teach and harness these individuals to become masters of their X-Factor. Where The X-Men chose to teach tolerance and coexistence with the homosapians, The Brotherhood of Mutants chose to elevate themselves to a higher place within society. The Brotherhood was largely considered by the global view to be too radical of thinking and they were persecuted for their belief that mutants were in fact, the next stage of human evolution.

During the war, Erik led his own group into battle with the philosophy that all attempts at co-habitation with humans and the mutant sympathizers had become a futile endeavor. At the start of the war many of their number died bloody, and some of them were just kids. Magneto even allowed himself to be assassinated so that a change for the better could happen. He took a lot of people with him, but that's neither here nor there. For the most part the Brotherhood members that remained "went their own ways".

Officially, they stopped actively recruiting, some died playing offense while others went underground and played defense. Even in hiding they managed to do more for the homosuperior race than anyone will ever know. The brotherhood was never truly gone, it just changed. They worked to protect the remaining members and grew to become more of an estranged family of which Mystique is matriarch. A number of the current members were only children during the war, most of whom were orphaned because of it.

These children were brought into and raised by the Brotherhood, particularly Mystique. They were taught how to use their powers and to never be ashamed of being a mutant. That there was nothing wrong with them it was the rest of the world that was fucked up, and a number of other philosophies exampled by Magneto. During this period of downtime, Mystique has orchestrated many things to further Erik's message. With her new face, she's infiltrated herself into the very ranks of the government, smuggled off-grid mutants by the boatload into and out of the continental United States, and has taken an active part in supporting new bills of legislation that would subversively undermine the MRL.

Although the Brotherhood lacks a lot of the resources that it once had during its Golden Age, They've squirreled away assets and illustrious contacts within the criminal world. Unlike the New X-Men, The B-Hood does not have a central location. Meet and Greets happen when and where the team leaders decide is best for each scenario. To put it bluntly, you don't find the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood finds you.
